Product Circularity

Establish a material take back program for recycled asphalt shingles with the goal of diverting 1 million additional tons of roofing materials from landfill annually by 2030, and establish a circular roofing economy.

Operational Waste Diversion

Achieve 80% waste diversion rates across all manufacturing plants. Recycle 100% of PMW TPO or shingle scrap, and retain, recycle, or reuse mat scrap and cores.

Carbon Emissions Reduct

Reduce our operational carbon emissions by improving energy efficiency, introducing renewable energy sources and exploring and/or innovating new technologies to remove carbon from the environment.

Green Portfolio Expansion

Conduct Life Cycle Assessments all core GAF products, and drive product expansion in solar and non-asphaltic roofing products.

GAF Cool Community Project combats the urban heat island

GAF and StreetBond pavement coatings have partnered together in a first-of-its-kind initiative launched in the Pacoima neighborhood of Los Angeles, to develop insights on urban heat effects by assessing cooling strategies.

Temperature reduction

In phase one, by applying StreetBond DuraShield with Invisible Shade technology, the initiative will monitor surface and ambient air temperatures, and evaluate qualitative measures, such as awareness of extreme heat impact, outdoor community engagement, and play opportunities.

Another advantage of partnering with StreetBond is the aesthetics of its product. While the technological aspects of the coatings address cooling and longevity, the vibrant color offerings let us transform neglected spaces into places neighbors are eager to enjoy together.

GAF manufactures asphalt shingles containing recycled material from post-consumer and post-manufacture waste shingles through a patented recycling process.

Empowering our teams to reduce waste

We recycle, regrind and reuse post-manufacture TPO waste, and hold GreenCircle recycled content certifications for select GAF EnergyGuard™, EverGuard® TPO, and PVC products. Many GAF manufacturing plants achieved third-party certification for their waste diversion rates, helping protect our communities.

Understanding a product’s life cycle

GAF strives to reduce environmental impact while maximizing product performance. We conduct life cycle assessments (LCAs) on our products to understand their impact, resulting in several Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). EPDs allow products to contribute to green building rating systems.
