About StormGuard® Film-Surfaced Leak Barrier

By creating a barrier at the most vulnerable areas of your asphalt shingle or metal roof (at the eaves and rakes, in valleys, around chimneys, etc.), StormGuard® Film-Surfaced Leak Barrier helps prevent leaks due to water backing up in your gutters, wind-driven rain, and in the North, damaging ice dams.  It will also help protect your home from expensive wall and ceiling staining from leaks.  StormGuard® Film-Surfaced Leak Barrier is a key part of the GAF Lifetime Roofing System.2   It’s eligible for Lifetime ltd. warranty when used on Lifetime Shingle roofs2 and it’s an eligible component of GAF residential enhanced warranties.  It’s also covered by up to a 10-year ltd. warranty3 when used with other approved non-asphaltic roof coverings.

  • Code Compliance and Risk Reduction:  Protection against ice dams is required by most building codes4 at eaves wherever the January average temperature is 25°F (-4°C) or lower or where there is a possibility of ice forming in the eaves — i.e., the area labeled “North”.  In Southern/warmer climates, leak barriers provide critical protection against wind-driven rain.
  • Strong Protection:  Guards vulnerable areas of your roof including eaves and rakes, in valleys, around chimneys and skylights, and more
  • Blue Synthetic Surface:  Durable, patterned film surface provides excellent wet/dry traction for installers and is perfect for full-deck application
  • Integral Surface Channels:  Helps move moisture away from the walking surface
  • Cooler to Work on:   The blue surface is cooler to work on (vs. typical black underlayments)
  • Versatile:  250oF high-temperature compound is perfect for use under asphalt shingles and most metal roofing systems1
  • Convenient:  Available in 2.0 square (200 ft.2 [18.58 m2]) rolls - excludes laps
